The Triumph of Westbourne Green

Tour dates and times:

Friday - 1 August 2025 - 11:00

Starting in the northeast corner of the Harrow Road on the south bank of the canal and walking in circular fashion, we will hear the story of once vibrant, now vanished communities, the magnificent church of St Mary Magdalene and its modern neighbour, The Warwick Estate. Along the way, we discover an undulating park, once the home of bustling Kinnard Street, near the site of the demolished Bayswater Synagogue, and now holding its own against the looming West Way.The area may be off the beaten track today but it once starred in the film, The Blue Lamp (1950), with Dirk Bogarde and Jack Warner, which may be a thriller but also shows Westbourne Green before modernisation in the 1960s. Today, the area is experiencing a resurgence, to be enjoyed as we stroll along its streets and paths.
