Introduction to South Westminster Art & Culture

Tour dates and times:

Sunday - 10 August 2025 - 11:00

This tour is an introduction to South Westminster starting with a walk in Pimlico and ending with a short visit to the internationally famous Tate Britain art gallery on Millbank. In the first part we will hear about the history of Pimlico which was largely the vision of one man, Thomas Cubitt. We go on through a square which is not what it seems and into the Millbank estate which was built on the site of a notorious prison. Along the way we will see some artworks, one of which has a surprising hidden purpose. Then we go into South Westminster’s very own art gallery, Tate Britain, for a short introductory tour focussing on pictures of the City of Westminster from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.
