A Walk with the Lord Mayor of Westminster!
A new collaboration between the Lord Mayor of Westminster and the Westminster Guides
When Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg was elected the new Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Westminster in May 2025, he announced a number of key initiatives, one of which was to get his residents walking and discovering more about the history of their own area. Naturally, he turned to Westminster’s official guides to organise a series of monthly walks across the Borough .
Members of the public can join the Lord Mayor on these walks! The cost of participating is £10.00 (with the exception of the walk on 27th June, which coincides with an Armed Forces event). The funds raised will be donated to the two charities chosen by the Lord Mayor:-
Our first walk for the Lord Mayor!
Our first walk was last week, ‘A Walk with the Lord Mayor in Hyde Park’. This was led by Westminster Guide Elizabeth Chase, from Lancaster Gate on a route around Hyde Park, finishing at Buck Hill Lodge. And we were blessed with the sun! We are biased, we love Hyde Park, but this is what the Lord Mayor had to say …
“I’ve always found walking is one of the best ways to see different places and learn about where you live or work. Westminster is no exception with history on every street corner, so it made perfect sense to partner with the City of Westminster Guides Lecturers Association during my mayoral year. The insightful knowledge and compelling delivery were evident on the inaugural walk of my series of guided tours across Westminster. Our guide, Elizabeth, kept us engaged as we strolled through Hyde Park learning about its evolution into the park we know and love today as well as its significance for London. Despite living in Westminster for decades, even I was able to learn something new thanks to Elizabeth’s expertise. I’m already looking forward to lacing up my boots and joining the Westminster Guides for the next one”.
Our next walk – 27 June 2025. Why not join us?
Our next walk coincides with the Armed Forces Day event at City Hall on Friday 27th June, beginning at City Hall to watch the Raising of the Flag, followed by a reception in the Lord Mayors Parlour. Westminster guide Jonty Levin will then take a group around Whitehall and St James for a WWII themed walk. If you are interested in this walk, please contact Julie.a.conway22@gmail.com to register your interest.
The cost of this walk is £15.00 per person.
