I have spent over 25 years working as a geologist in the energy sector after gaining a PhD in Earth Sciences.
A “light bulb” moment during a guided tour of Wimbledon Tennis changed my life and within a few months my career “U-turn” took me back to history! Since 2018, I have completed a course in City of London history and recently ‘graduated’ from the Tour Guiding course at the University of Westminster with Distinction.
Building on my regular career public speaking roles, I am now presenting specialist talks linked to walking tours in and around Westminster via Zoom and face to face.
My six topics include the social history of gin in Westminster from the slums to the Savoy and the caffeine-fuelled cultural, science and business revolution of the coffeehouses. An exploration of the hugely popular crime novel genre through the lens of Scotland Yard and the ebb and flow of the River Thames from Roman times are other talks. Meanwhile, a history of Christmas celebration and the fascinating, little-known stories behind Royal Palaces and the Crown Jewels complete the set!
Early feedback has been incredibly positive and I’m excited about future ventures.
