I have been best friends with London for more than 50 years – and with old friends, you pick up a fair bit of their history. London doesn’t mind me showing you something of what’s behind that fancy façade. Yes, the palaces, Royal Parks and West End street scenes are gorgeous but there are also plenty of reminders of what was behind it in the docks, railway yards, horse stables and run-down housing of the Victorian city.
I can take you most places on London’s waterways – sorry Venice, we’ve got more canals than you. Then let me tell you something about how the city got healthy –a long haul with nasty dips like cholera on the way. And in those 50 years I have been there for some of London’s big changes – like a discarded fridge mountain becoming an Olympic Park. London never stops throwing surprises – let me share them with you.
I work with groups from Year 1 primary school through to the University of the Third Age, from research academics to friends just looking for a fun afternoon. If I’m not running a walk that interests you, ask me to work one up that will.
