Alan is a retired university lecturer (King’s College London) with a PhD in linguistics. He is qualified as a guide in both Westminster and Camden, where he is currently Course Director of the Camden Tour Guiding course. He has guided many walks in both boroughs on a wide variety of themes. The contents of his portfolio of walks reflect his diverse interests. It includes, for example, walks which focus on social history, political and social reformers, educational institutions, literature, urban regeneration and the history of rock and roll.There are three set in Soho; European Soho, Literary Soho, and Soho’s music clubs.
As well as designing and delivering bespoke walks, Alan has a keen interest in training guides, both initial training in guiding skills and continuous professional development.
