11:00 am: Mr Selfridge and his Competitors: untold tales of London department stores11:00 am: Mr Selfridge and his Competitors: untold tales of London department stores
April 14, 2019 –
If you are coming to London’s Oxford Street for shopping, why not join Stephen to hear fascinating stories about some of the West End’s major stores and the characters behind them.

11:00 am: Passport to Pimlico: mainly Cubitt but with a sprinkle of the 20th century11:00 am: Passport to Pimlico: mainly Cubitt but with a sprinkle of the 20th century

In this walk we see some of Cubitt’s elegant streets and squares but also some of the interesting 20th century additions, such as the colossal 1930s Dolphin Square apartment development and the innovative 1960s Lillington Gardens council estate. Plus we hear about some of the well known residents, from victorian illustrator Aubrey Beardsley to fashion designer Laura Ashley as well as politicians from Oswald Mosley to Winston Churchill....

Who Runs These Walks and Talks?
Events marked Association walks or talks are organised and coordinated by the City of Westminster Guide Lecturers’ Association, and are often arranged in partnership with other organisations.
Events marked Members’ walks or talks are organised by an individual member or by a group of Westminster Guides, for their personal interest, whether as a business or for a charity. Please note that the member is responsible for all aspects of the walk, and that the Association simply allows members to list their walks on the site. Any issues, queries or concerns about any of the Members’ Walks listed must therefore be addressed directly to the responsible guide.
