Do you enjoy going on guided walks? Have you ever fancied being the one who is leading the walk? If so, then check out the Westminster Tour Guiding course at the University of Westminster. If you find London’s heritage fascinating and you have an enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge with other people, then you could join the ranks of the Westminster Guides.
The WTG course runs every year from late September to the middle of May, with classes in Marylebone on Thursday evenings and practical sessions out and about in Westminster on Saturday mornings. You will learn about the various areas of Westminster, which contain a multitude of world-famous buildings and monuments, and about many of the individuals, institutions and events related to Westminster’s heritage. You will also develop the research skills, the interpretation skills and the public-speaking and logistical skills necessary to become an effective walking tour guide. When you have successfully completed the course you will qualify for membership of the City of Westminster Guide Lecturers Association.
Applications are open now and close on Wednesday 31 July. You can apply online at https://www.westminster.ac.uk/courses/professional-and-short-courses/tourism-and-events/tour-guiding-course-city-of-westminster . The course is always over-subscribed so applicants have to attend an interview, which includes giving a three-minute talk on a specified topic. Interviews will take place between Friday 30 August and Sunday 1 September.
We look forward to meeting you then!
Caroline Dunmore, Course Director
