Whilst we quite rightly celebrate the ‘Windrush generation’ who arrived from the Caribbean to the UK in 1948 we sometimes forget that the presence of and contributions to this country of black people dates back hundreds of years to the Roman occupation! In the past this contribution has on too many occasions been overlooked and forgotten. However, in this walk we will open a window on a small part of the rich and interesting history of black people in London. We will encounter heroes and heroines of war, black Georgians, anti-slavery campaigners as well as those who struggled for justice in the 20th Century and those who continue to do so.
The walk will be taken by either Philip Scott or Dr. Stephen King, both Qualified City of Westminster Guides.
This walk will take place with the safety and enjoyment of participants at its heart. Your qualified guides, Philip Scott and Dr. Stephen King, meet the Good to Go industry standard, and will be following Government guidance with regards to COVID-19. Whilst masks are not mandatory outdoors do please wear one if you would like to. The group size is being kept small to comply with social distancing recommendations, and with this in mind we are limiting the group size to 10
